Background

Based in Panama Republic of Panama,  Reforestadora Rio Hato is a family Owned and Operated business With the mission of improving the environment.
Reforestadora Rio Hato started as an incentive project from the Panamanian Government in 1996 to prevent the area of Rio Hato from becoming a desert.
Jacobo Sofer and Jose Sofer embraced this project with love and even though 3 years later the government eliminated the generous incentives, the Sofer family continued the project for the sake of saving the land from becoming a desert.  The Sofer's worked against all odds to maintain their dream alive to the point they went into the chicken business in order to use their waste as organic fertilizer.

Only the 800 hectares assigned to Jacobo Sofer from the original 7000 hectares the government assigned to other companies are planted.    Jacobo Sofer and his son Jose are entrepreneurs who are in love with nature.  They devoted almost 20 years of their life to plant and preserve the ecosystem of Rio Hato.

Anam ( Autoridad Nacional del Ambiente / Environmental National Authority) advise was to plant Caribea Pine trees so the leaves from the Pine would fertilize the soil.

Nineteen years later Reforestadora de Rio Hato counts with more than 550,000 pine tress.  The land is fertile, healthy and ready for planting any kind of trees. The ecological cycle has been completed, from a desert to a forest where tigers have been seen in the surroundings.
